In this blog, we will learn how to grow microgreens at home. Micro greens are first true leaves produced from a seedling of vegetables and herbs that are atleast 3-4 inch tall.
Planting time:
Microgreens can be grown easily almost everywhere and any time of year.
Growth period:
Microgreens will get ready for harvest within 9-14 days.
Microgreens:
Mustard, Fenugreek, Lettuce, Spinach, Basil, Sage, Rosemary, Turnip, Endive, Beetroot, Celery, Wheat grass, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Arugula, Mung beans, Gram, Broccoli, etc.
Planting:
Choose any container of 3-4 in deep. You can take a grow tray also.
Make sure that containers have drainage hole in them.
Use 50% garden soil and 50% manure as growing medium.
Mix them well and fill the tray with potting mix.
Tap the soil surface gently and flatten them.
Moisten the soil mix thoroughly.
Scatter the seeds evenly on the top of the soil and tap them to ensure the soil contact.
This will help the seeds to absorb more moisture and encourages germination and growth.
No need to cover the seeds with the soil. Avoid over lay of seeds.
Soaking the seeds overnight will speeds up the process.
Position & Watering:
Microgreens need 3-4 hours of sunlight. You can keep this in your balcony or windowsill.
Mist the seeds using the spray bottle. Do not over water.
Keep them moist until the seeds germinate.
After Germination Water them 2 days once.
Leggy, pale green leaves are signs of improper sunlight exposure.
Harvest:
After 10-15 days, They produce their first true leaves.
Once the plants are 2-4 inch tall, they are ready to harvest.
Use scissors to cut the plants. Use them in food once you harvest for better taste.
They can also be stored in refrigerators.
